The essentials
- No public transport service goes into the national park itself. Bus lines reach Tinajo and Yaiza, and from there you take a taxi.[1]
- The LZ-67 between Tinajo and Yaiza gives access to the park's facilities, and the park authority's routes from Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise all join it.[1][2]
- Rome2rio puts Playa Blanca 20 km and Puerto del Carmen 21 km from the park by road, against 33 km from Arrecife.[3][4][5]
- Montañas del Fuego sells no tickets at the box office, so buy online in advance and arrive 15 minutes before your slot.[6]
- The day tour booked from this site lists 61 pickup location options and skip-the-line entry, from US$102.[7]

Before you set off
Is there a bus to Timanfaya National Park?
Not into the park itself. The park authority explains that no public transport service reaches the national park, but that bus lines run to the municipalities of Tinajo and Yaiza, which contain it, and that from there you can take a taxi to the points of interest.[1] CACT, which sells the Montañas del Fuego tickets, says some of its centres have bus stops and points visitors to Intercity Bus's current lines or to Google Maps directions.[6]
Intercity Bus Lanzarote lines serve both municipalities. Line 16, from Arrecife to La Santa, runs through San Bartolomé, Mozaga, Tao, Tiagua and La Vegueta and stops at Mancha Blanca and Teleclub Mancha Blanca as well as in Tinajo.[1][12] Line 6, from Arrecife to Playa Blanca via Playa Honda, Tías and Puerto del Carmen, stops at Uga and at Supermercado de Yaiza, Aljibe de Yaiza and Centro de Salud de Yaiza.[1][11]
Line 61 links the airport terminals with Uga and the same Yaiza stops without going through Arrecife, and line 22 runs between Arrecife bus station and the airport.[8][15] Intercity Bus sells a rechargeable Bono card with 10% off ordinary fares, topped up from €5 to €50 on the bus or at the Arrecife Station and Interchange offices, and the park authority sends travellers to arrecifebus.com for further information.[1][13]
Playa Blanca to Timanfaya National Park
Rome2rio gives the driving distance from Playa Blanca to Timanfaya National Park as 20 km, a drive of about 26 minutes.[3] The park authority's routes from Arrecife via Yaiza and from Puerto del Carmen both reach Yaiza on the LZ-2 and turn there onto the LZ-67, the road towards Montañas del Fuego.[2]
Without a car, Playa Blanca is on bus line 6 and line 61, and both serve Yaiza on the way.[1][8] From Yaiza a taxi covers the last stretch, and the park authority lists 928 524 222 as the Radio Taxi number for Yaiza and Playa Blanca.[1]
The Arrecife/Playa Blanca Timanfaya National Park Area Day Tour lists pickup included, a 7-hour duration and a price from US$75.[9] The express tour that starts from Yaiza lasts 2 hours, lists skip-the-line entry and costs from US$66.[16]

Puerto del Carmen to Timanfaya National Park
The park authority's route from Puerto del Carmen takes the LZ-504 to Tías, continues on the LZ-2 to Yaiza, and then turns off onto the LZ-67, which leads to Timanfaya National Park.[2] Rome2rio gives the driving distance from Puerto del Carmen to the park as 21 km, about 33 minutes by car.[4]
By bus, line 6 covers Puerto del Carmen on its way from Arrecife to Playa Blanca, with stops at Uga and in Yaiza.[1][11] The Radio Taxi number the park authority lists for Tías and Puerto del Carmen is 928 524 220.[1]
From Arrecife, Costa Teguise and the airport
The park authority describes two driving routes from Arrecife.[2] Via Yaiza, you take the LZ-2 to Yaiza and then the LZ-67 towards Montañas del Fuego and Tinajo. Via Tinajo, you take the LZ-20 to Tinajo and continue on the LZ-67 towards Mancha Blanca and Yaiza.[2] Rome2rio gives the driving distance from Arrecife to Timanfaya National Park as 33 km, about 41 minutes.[5]
For Costa Teguise to Timanfaya National Park, the park authority calls the best access the LZ-14 to the Arrecife ring road, then the LZ-20 to Tinajo at the first turn-off, and the LZ-67 on to the park, visiting the Mancha Blanca Visitor and Interpretation Centre first.[2] Rome2rio puts Costa Teguise 39 km from the park, about 46 minutes by car.[17]
Lanzarote Airport is 28 km from the park by Rome2rio's figure, about 37 minutes by car.[18] Without a car, line 61 connects the airport terminals directly with Uga and Yaiza, and line 16 serves Mancha Blanca from Arrecife bus station.[8][12]
2.5 km
The distance from the Echadero de los Camellos camel station to the Taro de entrada gate of Montañas del Fuego.[2]
Where the park entrance is
The LZ-67, the road linking Tinajo and Yaiza, gives access to the different facilities of Timanfaya National Park.[1] On the approach, the road is built from the same lava materials as the area and carries no painted markings, to keep it in unity with the landscape.[2] Signs with César Manrique's El Diablo logo, made from the timber of broken-up boats, stand at the access points to the park.[2]
Coming from Yaiza, the Taro de entrada, the entrance gate to the Montañas del Fuego tourist centre, is 2.5 km past the Echadero de los Camellos camel station.[2] Coming from Tinajo, the gate is 4.5 km along the LZ-67 from the Mancha Blanca visitor centre, which sits just outside the park boundary at Ctra. Tinajo-Yaiza, Km 11,500, 35560 Tinajo.[2][19]
Past the gate, visitors must stay inside their vehicle from El Taro to the car park on the Islote de Hilario, where the facilities include a cafeteria, a restaurant, a souvenir shop and toilets.[14][20] The park authority asks anyone who hires a car to leave it there, because the free routes are done on foot and the guided ones on foot or aboard the park's own buses.[1]
Taxis to the park
A taxi to Timanfaya National Park is the park authority's own suggestion for the last leg from Tinajo or Yaiza.[1] It publishes a Radio Taxi number for each zone of the island: 928 520 176 for the airport, 928 800 806 for Arrecife, 928 840 049 for Tinajo and La Santa, and 928 524 222 for Yaiza and Playa Blanca.[1]
The same list gives 928 524 220 for Tías and Puerto del Carmen, 928 806 233 for Teguise and Costa Teguise, 928 520 176 for San Bartolomé and Playa Honda, and 620 315 350 for Haría and Órzola.[1]
Timanfaya lies in the municipalities of Tinajo and Yaiza.[1] Under Canary Islands rules each town council sets the urban taxi tariffs for trips inside its own town, while the Gobierno de Canarias sets the interurban ones.[21]
Cruise passengers and tours that collect you
Most cruise ships at Arrecife now dock at La Boca de Puerto Naos, closer to the city than the commercial-port berths.[22] The Muelle de los Mármoles, which handles most regular ferry lines, sits about 3 km from the city centre.[23] Rome2rio gives 34 km, about 43 minutes, from Arrecife Port to the park, and car-hire firms such as Cicar and TopCar keep offices and parking at the dockside.[23][24]
Several GetYourGuide listings are built for ship guests. Arrecife: Timanfaya and Green Lagoon for Cruise Passengers runs 2.5 to 5 hours from US$57, and Timanfaya And El Golfo For Cruise Passengers (Mornings) lasts 4.5 hours from US$70, with 2 pickup location options.[10][25] The 8-hour Day Tour for Cruise Passengers includes Timanfaya National Park among its stops, from US$92.[26]
The Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes tour booked from this site lists 61 pickup location options, a 9-hour day and skip-the-line entry, from US$102.[7] The Volcanic Craters Tour lists 53 pickup location options over 5 hours from US$68, and the Timanfaya Park and Jameos del Agua Full-Day Tour lists 66 pickup location options from US$86.[27][28]
