Craters, lava flows and lunar-like landscapes reflect the heat of the earth. On the Islote de Hilario, geothermal activity shows that the subsoil still holds part of that heat.

Which Timanfaya tours can you book?
At Montañas del Fuego, CACT's €30.00 general ticket includes a 35-minute coach route along the Route of the Volcanoes, which CACT says was conceived by César Manrique and comes with an audio narrative.[5] CACT also states that it is not permitted to explore Timanfaya National Park freely by car or on foot.[4]
On GetYourGuide, the tour booked from this site is a 9-hour day that visits Timanfaya National Park, Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua, from US$102.[1] Shorter listings exist too: the volcanic craters tour takes 5 hours with stops at Timanfaya National Park and the Islet of Hilario, from US$68, and the Lanzarote: Timanfaya National Park Tour takes 6 hours, also from US$68.[2][9] The Timanfaya Express Tour with No Queues is sold from Yaiza, takes 2 hours and lists from US$66.[3]
Other listings pair the park with something else. The Timanfaya Park and Jameos del Agua Full-Day Tour runs 9 to 10 hours with stops at El Golfo, Timanfaya National Park, the Islet of Hilario and Jameos del Agua, from US$86.[7] An evening tour with a volcano dinner runs 5 hours from US$155.[10] A guided off-road volcano buggy tour of 2 to 3 hours lists from US$173, with no park stop named in its listing.[11]
Full day or half day?
The tour booked from this site runs 9 hours and continues from Timanfaya National Park to Cueva de los Verdes and then Jameos del Agua.[1] The Timanfaya Park and Jameos del Agua Full-Day Tour runs 9 to 10 hours and lists El Golfo first, before the park, the Islet of Hilario and Jameos del Agua.[7]
A Timanfaya National Park half day tour is the shorter choice. The volcanic craters tour lasts 5 hours, and the Timanfaya National Park & La Geria Tour lasts 5.5 hours, with a viewpoint and La Geria after the park.[2][12] Both list pickup as included and skip-the-ticket-line entry.[2][12]
The two cave stops on the full day are CACT centres with their own visit details. CACT lists a visit of about 50 minutes at Cueva de los Verdes, guided in Spanish and English, through an atmosphere designed by artist Jesús Soto.[8] At Jameos del Agua, CACT's general ticket covers the descent through the Jameo Chico, the lake of the blind crabs, the Jameo Grande and access to the Auditorium.[13]

What a Timanfaya National Park excursion includes
The tour booked from this site lists pickup, a live tour guide in English, French, German and Spanish, and skip-the-ticket-line entry.[1] The volcanic craters tour lists the same features with guides in English, Spanish and French, and the Timanfaya Park and Jameos del Agua Full-Day Tour lists them with guides in German, Spanish, Italian, French and English.[2][7]
What the park ticket covers is set by CACT: its €30.00 general ticket includes the 35-minute coach route, the geothermal demonstrations, access to Islote de Hilario and a volcanic landscape viewpoint.[5] CACT's FAQ separately says the Route of the Volcanoes buses depart every 20 minutes and the tour lasts approximately 40 minutes.[4]
The length of the route also depends on the publisher. CACT describes the Route of the Volcanoes as around 14 kilometres, while the Gobierno de Canarias park authority gives 12 km and 45 minutes.[5][14] The audio guide differs by page too: CACT's What to do section lists Spanish, English and German, and CACT's FAQ names Spanish and English.[4][5]
Pickup, tickets and time slots
The tour booked from this site lists 61 pickup location options and 61 drop-off locations, and the volcanic craters tour lists 53 of each.[1][2] Both mark pickup as included, with details shown when you check availability.[1][2] The Timanfaya Express Tour with No Queues lists no pickup and is sold as a tour from Yaiza.[3]
For an independent visit, CACT sells no tickets at the box office at Montañas del Fuego, and a date and time must be selected when you buy online.[4][15] CACT asks visitors to arrive 15 minutes before their booked time, has no waiting areas for early arrivals, and treats the ticket of a visitor arriving outside the slot as no longer valid, with no changes or refunds.[4]
If a time does not appear online, CACT says the quota for that slot is already full.[4] The tour booked from this site, the volcanic craters tour and the Timanfaya Park and Jameos del Agua Full-Day Tour each list free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund, and reserve now and pay later.[1][2][7]

Guided walks and volcano hikes
On foot, MITECO says free access to the national park is permitted only along the coast, on a path that runs the length of the park's coastline.[16] The Tremesana route is a compulsorily guided walk, booked through the OAPN central reservations office.[17] The Gobierno de Canarias park site gives it 3.5 km, about 3 hours and low difficulty, while Turismo Lanzarote describes some 2 km.[17][18]
This Timanfaya National Park guided tour on foot is free, but it takes planning: bookings must be made online at least 25-30 days ahead because groups are small.[17] The walk meets at Plaza de los Remedios in Yaiza 15 minutes before departure, and it is described as accessible for most walkers over the age of 16.[17]
GetYourGuide also lists paid volcano hikes. The Hike Across Timanfaya's Volcanic Landscapes lists 3 hours, groups limited to 10 participants and 4.80 from 1,450 reviews, from US$51.[6] The Guided Volcano Hike with Transfers lists 3.5 to 4 hours, groups limited to 8 participants and 4.85 from 929 reviews, from US$48.[19] The Timanfaya Natural Park Trekking Tour lists 3 hours, groups limited to 9 participants and 4.82 from 907 reviews, from US$54.[20]
Trips to Timanfaya National Park with children
Children aged 0 to 6 enter Montañas del Fuego free.[5] CACT's visitor guide says the restaurant and cafeteria have high chairs, warns that access with a pushchair can be difficult, and recommends bringing a baby carrier.[5] El Diablo restaurant's kids menu lists spaghetti bolognese at €7.00 and breaded chicken at €9.00.[21]
Tour length varies widely. The Timanfaya Express Tour with No Queues takes 2 hours, the volcanic craters tour 5 hours, and the tour booked from this site 9 hours.[1][2][3] On the full day, CACT says the Cueva de los Verdes route includes uneven paths, stairs, narrow spaces and low ceilings, and is not recommended for people with claustrophobia.[8]
Pets are not allowed at Montañas del Fuego, except assistance dogs.[5] CACT recommends comfortable clothing and footwear, a cap or sun protection between June and September, and warm clothing between October and April, because this is a windy area.[5]
Which Timanfaya tour has the best reviews?
Of these full and half-day listings, the Timanfaya Park and Jameos del Agua Full-Day Tour holds 4.49 from 2,037 reviews, the tour booked from this site 4.47 from 2,662 reviews, and the volcanic craters tour 4.35 from 2,523 reviews.[1][2][7] The tour booked from this site scores 4.5 for its guide, 4.6 for transportation and 4.4 for value for money.[1]
Other formats carry higher scores. The guided off-road volcano buggy tour holds 4.67 from 5,246 reviews, and the Timanfaya Express Tour with No Queues 4.64 from 210 reviews.[3][11] The Guided Volcano Hike with Transfers holds 4.85 from 929 reviews and scores 5 for its guide.[19]
The best Timanfaya tour depends on what you want beside the park. The volcanic craters tour adds the Islet of Hilario in 5 hours, while the tour booked from this site adds Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua, two parts of the Corona lava tube that IGME names among its most valuable geological elements.[1][2][22]
